Planning a Round the World Trip

Planning a round the world trip can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a lot of work.

It's fun to pick out destinations, do research on how to get there and the things to see. For an hour or two, it doesn't matter how we're going to get there or how much it's going to cost. Instead, we suspend reality and just concentrate on "Wouldn't it be cool to go there?" I enjoy reading other traveler's accounts and seeing what they felt about a particular destination. For me, that's half of the fun of traveling right there. If you're visiting this site, I'm guessing that you enjoy that kind of thing as well! This is the fun part of planning a round the world trip.

Now, the no-so-fun part.

In order to actually get out there and travel to all those neat places; you'll need to do a lot more than just pick your destination! Vaccinations, airline tickets, tax forms, power of attorneys, bill forwarding, mail scanning services, packing, making copies of everything, renting/selling your house or terminating your lease, finding something to do with your car, making sure it still runs when you get back, getting rid of all the clutter in your life or finding a place to store it... Are you starting to see the potential frustration?

Before you run away screaming, I'll let you know that it's not all that bad. First of all, I've already done much of the necessary research so I'll list everything I can think of that you'll need to do. Since most of these steps apply to planning my own trip, it's in my best interest not to forget anything. ;) Secondly, I'll be walking you through each process as I complete them. If there are any potential pitfalls or roadblocks, hopefully I'll encounter them first and you can learn from my mistakes.

I've broken down planning a round the world trip into four sections. You can get to each section by clicking on the pictures, or by selecting them from the drop down menu at the top of the screen under "Planning".
